In 1998, legendary cellist Yo-Yo Ma stepped away from the world of classical music to create a supergroup of global musicians called The Silk Road Ensemble, named for the ancient trade route that linked Asia, Africa, and Europe. Directed by award-winning filmmaker Morgan Neville (20 Feet from Stardom), this documentary blends performance footage, personal interviews, and archival film to bring audiences into the vibrant musical world of the ensemble and vividly portray the intense dedication of these virtuosos. Screening in memory of Bill Bondeson, a beloved friend of Ragtag Film Society, The Music of Strangers was one of his favorite True/False Film Fest movies and was an official selection of the 2016 fest.
